The Guardian conducts a selection of the top 100 players every year, and the rankings are determined by a vote of judges. The judges will select their own top 40 players for 2022, with the top player receiving 40 points, the second-place player receiving 39 points, and so on, with the 40th-place player receiving 1 point. Any player who makes the list must receive votes from at least five judges.

If two players’ total points are tied, their votes will be compared.

This year’s judges include former international players such as Lahm and Lucio, famous coaches such as Terim, as well as Di Marzio and Roma Nuo and other well-known journalists.

The Guardian stated that all judges participated in this voting for free, and detailed voting results will be released after the complete ranking is announced.
