SportsTalk reported on December 25 that Ineos Group, headed by Jim Ratcliffe, acquired 25% of the shares of Manchester United. Ratcliffe will also take over all aspects of Manchester United’s football operations.

The Times had previously published a column talking about Ratcliffe’s acquisition, and stated that Ratcliffe and his team were very concerned about the acquisition. He disagrees with Manchester United’s transfer operations and believes that Manchester United has always been “taken advantage of” in the market.

The column talks about the belief on the part of Ratcliffe’s team that Manchester United’s situation can only be improved through smarter operations, not Solve problems by spending money. Ineos has assembled research that shows United’s transfer spending translates into significantly less playing time compared to rivals such as Manchester City. Ratcliffe also said: “We don’t like to waste money, otherwise we wouldn’t be where we are today. It’s part of our DNA to try to spend our money wisely,”

Ratcliffe once told reporters: “They (Manchester United) have always been taken advantage of, and buying players like Fred is an example.”
